What is a UGC creator? Meaning and what they do

UGC creator: A UGC creator is someone paid by brands to make short, natural-looking videos about a product, which the brand posts, runs as ads, or has the creator post on a brand account.

A UGC creator makes short videos for brands that look like a normal person talking about a product. UGC stands for user-generated content. The brand pays you for the video, then posts it, runs it as an ad, or has you post it on an account they own.

How it works

Most UGC work follows the same loop:

  1. Brief. The brand explains the product and the angle.
  2. Film. You record reactions, demos or talking clips on your phone.
  3. Edit. You cut the clips, add a hook and captions.
  4. Deliver or post. You send the files, or post them yourself on a brand account.

Creators often specialize. Tech UGC creators promote apps with screen recordings. Faceless UGC creators never show their face. Canvas UGC creators run brand-owned accounts and post daily.

Example

An app brand hires you for a month. You already have a folder of reaction clips and three screen recordings of the app. Each day you pair a reaction with a demo, write a new hook, edit the video and post it on the brand’s TikTok and Instagram.

How UGC creators get paid

  • Per video: a flat fee per accepted video.
  • CPM: a rate per 1,000 views.
  • Retainer: a monthly fee for a set volume, sometimes with view bonuses.

Usage rights for paid ads are often charged on top.

UGC creator vs influencer

An influencer is paid for their audience. A UGC creator is paid for the video. You don’t need followers, and your videos may never appear on your own profile.

Why it matters

If you are starting out, UGC doesn’t require an audience, only the ability to make videos that hold attention. The ceiling is time: filming, editing and posting for every client, every day. Many creators grow by taking on more clients, which only works if each post takes less of their day. See how to post 3 times a day as a UGC creator.
