What is the For You page on TikTok? FYP explained

For You page (FYP): The For You page (FYP) is TikTok's personalized feed of recommended videos. TikTok calls it the For You feed, and it shows videos from accounts a viewer may not follow.

The For You page, or FYP, is TikTok’s main feed of recommended videos. TikTok officially calls it the For You feed. Each viewer’s feed is personal, and it can show videos from accounts they don’t follow. That is why a brand-new account with zero followers can still get views.

How it works

TikTok’s recommendation system ranks videos using signals like these (TikTok):

  • Interactions: videos a viewer likes or shares, accounts they follow, comments they post. Finishing a longer video counts as a strong signal.
  • Video information: captions, sounds and hashtags.
  • Device and account settings: language, country and device type.

TikTok says “neither follower count nor whether the account has had previous high-performing videos are direct factors” (same source).

Not every video is eligible. TikTok leaves out content that “may not be suitable for a broad audience” (TikTok Community Guidelines). The rule UGC creators hit most: reused or unoriginal content posted without creative edits, such as clips with someone else’s watermark, is ineligible (TikTok Community Guidelines).

Example

You start a fresh TikTok for a fitness app as part of a Canvas UGC deal. The account has no followers. Your third post has a strong hook and people watch it to the end, so it keeps getting shown to more people. It passes 50,000 views while the account still has a few hundred followers. These numbers are an example, not a typical result.

When videos don’t reach the FYP

Low views alone don’t mean you broke a rule. TikTok says a video with few views “doesn’t necessarily mean it broke a rule”, and that videos outside the feed can still be found through search or your profile (TikTok Community Guidelines). If a whole account stops reaching the feed, see shadowban.

Why it matters for UGC creators

  • Followers aren’t required. Brand-owned accounts can get views from the first post.
  • Original edits matter. Reposting the same clip unchanged puts eligibility at risk. Vary the hook, the demo and the cut.
  • Attention is the lever. Videos people finish get more weight. See watch time and hook rate.

Instagram Reels and YouTube Shorts have their own recommended feeds. The basics carry over: original videos, a strong opening and a reason to keep watching.

Related terms

  • Shadowban: A shadowban is the informal name for when an account's posts quietly stop being recommended to new viewers, while the account itself still works and can still post.
  • Watch time: Watch time is the total time viewers spend watching a video. Average watch time divides it by views, showing how far a typical viewer gets before scrolling away.
  • Canvas UGC: Canvas UGC is short-form video a creator makes and posts on an account the brand owns, paid on output or views instead of the creator's own following.
  • Hook: A hook is the first line, shot or on-screen text of a short video, built to stop viewers from scrolling past in the first seconds.
